About the Midtown Alliance

The Midtown Alliance, incorporated as the Midtown Business Association in 1978, has been the driving force behind Midtown's extraordinary success.
A coalition of business and community leaders, the Alliance has achieved its goals by including members from every sector -- commercial, cultural, residential, academic, ecumenical, and social service. To build upon this spirit of collaboration and partnership, the organization changed its name in 1993.
The mission of the Midtown Alliance is to sustain and improve the quality of life in Midtown. Priorities include public safety, urban planning, support to arts and education, streetscape beautification, economic development, traffic and infrastructure improvements and leadership development.
The Midtown Alliance
at work
The Midtown Alliance takes a comprehensive approach to community-building through concentrated involvement in quality of life issues. All are important and all are interrelated. Together they represent an investment in our future.
- Economic Development:
A Blueprint for Success
Blueprint Midtown, begun in 1996, is a formal planning process involving the entire Midtown community. Hundreds participated in creating a vision and translating that vision into a literal working document which will provide direction for new development, public improvements and policy initiatives. A planning task force is now using the Blueprint to implement projects that will make the community vision a reality.
- Public Safety:
An Investment in Security
The Midtown Alliance established and equipped a Midtown Police Precinct in 1990 and has provided all financial support for utilities and upkeep since that time. We also host a Midtown Security Council, comprised of property and business owners and police officials, which addresses public safety challenges and provides solutions.
- Arts Development:
Celebrating Atlanta's Soul
First Night Atlanta is produced by the Alliance to showcase Atlanta's arts attractions on New Year's Eve. The event draws tens of thousands of Metro-Atlantans and visitors to Midtown for an alcohol-free, family-oriented celebration.
- Education:
A Community Making the Grade
The Midtown Alliance serves as a liaison between our membership and Inman Middle School. Programs include a mentoring program for at-risk students, an in-school banking course, and special projects that match business resources with school needs.
- Leadership Development:
Advocates for Tomorrow
To encourage and nurture Atlanta's future leaders, the Midtown Alliance conducts and annual five month Midtown Leadership Program. We also offer further opportunities for graduates to come together as a group and to participate in the leadership of the organization.
- Human Services:
Every Person Counts
The Midtown Alliance served as a catalyst in 1986 to create the Midtown Assistance Center. MAC provides emergency assistance to the working poor of Midtown Atlanta to forestall homelessness and poverty during times of crisis. We continue to support financially and promote MAC with our annual "Every Cent Counts" campaign.
- Business Development:
A Network of Achievers
Midtown Alliance members come together for programs and seminars to get the inside track on Atlanta's hottest issues firsthand from the men and women who are making the news.
