The Visual
Preference Survey

The Visual Preference Survey Results Reveal What the Midtown Community Wants!
The results are in! Over 1,200 members of Midtown's residential, commercial, arts, ecumenical and academic communities answered our call to share their vision of Midtown. Through April and May 1997, these volunteers participated in Visual Preference Surveys, sharing their opinions on what an attractive, livable urban area should be and look like.
Now this community-generated information is available for the first time -- and we've already put this information to good use! Shortly after the analysis of the surveys was completed, in May 1997, 200 leaders from all sectors of Midtown attended the Blueprint Midtown Workshop, where they used the survey data to create a master plan for Midtown's future. Anton Nelessen, urban design consultant and developer of the innovative Visual Preference Survey, served as a guide a mediator at this important day-long event.
In Fall 1997, the Midtown Alliance presented the survey results and a synthesis of the master plan at the Midtown Alliance's Annual Meeting on October 30th at the Fox Theatre. Additional presentations followed for community audiences.

On behalf of the entire Midtown community, the Midtown Alliance would like to express our appreciation to all those who participated in the Visual Preference Survey. Thank you for taking an hour and a half out of your busy schedules to make your voices heard. The entire Blueprint Midtown project would be impossible without you!
