Past & Present Projects
Obviously, I stand on my work, and I invite you to see it. Over the past two years, my work in professional web development has included:
Web Sites
- Georgia Division of Public Health
http://www.ph.dhr.state.ga.us
While not chief designer of this site, with almost two year's
creation and maintenance experience, I can say that much of the
current content, programming, and look of this site is a result
of my work. I am almost solely responsible for the day-to-day
maintenance of this site, which includes over 2,000 pages. One
of the sections of the site I have had the most influence over
is GDPH News &
Resources. A publication I converted for online use is the
1998 State
of the Heart Report. Another section of the site I created
was INPHO, Information
Network for Public Health Officials. Currently I am on contract
with Cotelligent, Inc., as one of two web developers working in
connection with this site. Four references
available.
- Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association
http://www.abraxis.com/wdarling/dna/
permanent domain pending
As volunteer web developer, I came up with a site design and content scheme that was hip and designed to serve not only Downtown residents but those interested in Downtown living. Not only did I create the design and graphics, but I came up with a logo for the group and wrote all of the content, including news articles, an overview of the Downtown housing market, and copy related to life Downtown.
- YouthPride Atlanta
http://www.youthpride.org
As volunteer webmaster, I have turned a small, static, out-of-date
web site into a site about ten times as large with dynamic, timely
content that serves the needs of the organization to a tee. My
work on this site has included a complete structural redesign,
the addition of a
CGI-driven bulletin board, gathering and maintenance of links and content,
the answering of site mail, and server log analysis. Recently,
I used this site to help organize and publicize Unity Above Hate,
a downtown Atlanta march and rally. Reference
available.

Partial Reproduction of Site Since Redesigned by Client
For this project, I conceived, designed, and constructed a medium-size, information-rich web site for a non-profit organization from start to finish. I conducted pre-planning discussions, programmed and designed all pages, created graphics, created and edited content, set up several CGI programs, and carried out post-production work, including advertising and registration with search engines. This project is notable for its flexible, easy-to-maintain, elegant design as well as for the level of satisfaction felt by the organization I produced it for, the Midtown Alliance. The site has since undergone a redesign; this is a partial reproduction of the original design.
- City Realty Advisors, LLC
Not online; design exists in my web space
As contract developer, developed small web site for Atlanta-based commercial real estate company. Created site that matched existing PR materials and was highly usable as well as a quick download. Set up CGI mail forms and managed technical development issues. Note: After I had completed all work, the company unexpectedly decided not to go with my design, so this design only exists in my web space.
- Wendy Darling Web Site Development, Design & Promotion
http://www.abraxis.com/wdarling/business/ Small, simple ultra-low-bandwidth site I set up to handle and promote myself as a freelance web developer.
- Christina's World
Small, quick site for an e-penpal; design is modeled on Arm & Hammer detergent box.
- UGA Gradute School
No longer online
First large-scale, non-personal site I ever worked on, this was a fully-developed web site featuring the contents of the UGA Graduate School catalog, forms for registering online, and most of the other elements featured on undergraduate and graduate university schoool web sites. For this site, I worked as part of a small team at the Dowden Center for New Media Studies, a web development training and research center at the University of Georgia. Reference available.
- The Thrift Shop
http://www.abraxis.com/wdarling/thriftshop.html I consider this site to be my first, since it was the first I created after having taken formal classes in HTML and web design. Earlier efforts were amateurish in comparison; this site is elegant, content-rich, and includes functional elements such as pull-down JavaScript menus.
Graphics
- Georgia Division of Public Health (see above under web sites)
- Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association
http://www.abraxis.com/wdarling/dna/
permanent domain pending Created entire graphic "look," including logo, navigation, the animation on the home page, and other graphics used on the site (see above under web sites). Selected color scheme that would reflect the neighborhood as hip and urban, in contract to other neighborhoods in town that have web sites that are more "homey" and not as bold.
- Blueprint Midtown
http://www.abraxis.com/wdarling/blueprint/ Created navigation and branding for this site (see above under web sites) and sized, optimized, and placed existing graphics, including hundreds of photographs, maps, and diagrams. The site has since undergone a redesign; this is a partial reproduction of the original design.
- YouthPride Atlanta
